Readers of "Choke"/Palahniuk.

I read Choke, along with most of Chuck Palahniuk's other novels, a couple of years ago, and I loved it. And I think that David Fincher really set the tone for the Palahniuk adaptation, and I'm afraid that Clark Gregg's adaptation of Choke may be true to the novel, it may not have that Fincher feeling, though. Actually, it definitely won't have that Fincher feeling. His style in Fight Club is pretty distinctive. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm afraid that Clark Gregg's adaptation of Choke will be in such a different style than Fight Club that the movie may end up being sub-par, especially for Palahniuk fans. Any other Palahniuk fans out there feel this way?

I feel the same way, Daphne. Chuck Palahniuk is one of my heroes, and I think that Choke is him at the top of his game. And I would be so disappointed to see what I feel is his best work turned into a mediocre film. However, I think that Angelica Huston may have been the best pick for Victor's mother.
Yet, I can't help but feel like Daphne about this. Fincher really did seem to perfectly capture the tone of the Chuck Palahniuk novel, and I'm expecting Clark Gregg to have probably made a good movie, but it won't feel like a Palahniuk story. If that makes any sense. Although, I didn't start reading Palahniuk until after I saw Fight Club. So, maybe I've just been using the Fincher style in my head while reading all of Palahniuk's work. Hopefully, Gregg will have found a different way to portray the Palahniuk world. Whatever the case may be,  I am excited.

Sometimes a book does not translate well to film and must be significantly adapted.  I've seen fans in some films comparing dialog in book and film (most recently "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy") and are almost always disappointed while others are satisfied with a well made film that captures the spirit of the original work.  Sadly there are films that seem to only steal the title such as "Dune"; however, "Gone With The Wind" was a mediocre book but a great movie.  The movie "A Love Song for Bobby Long" was soundly adapted from "Off Magazine Street" by Ronald Everett Capps, characters were combined and scenes and locations were changed to make this remarkable film a humid, alcoholically lethargic slice of New Orleans close to works by Tennessee Williams.

Hopefully you will evaluate Choke as a stand alone piece of art and compare it afterwards at leisure.
